Located in the coastal croftland of Caithness, Whinview Cottage is a former croft house & is set within the owners partially wooded grounds.
Many wildlife havens are within easy walking distance. Local lochs also provide trout fishing.
The Castle of Mey, much loved home of the Queen Mother is a leisurely 40 minute drive away, as is John O’Groats.

Modernised to a high standard, Whinview’s traditional style has been retained (stone fireplace & exposed beams) and blended with cosy home comforts and all that you need to have a relaxing holiday.

Activities
The immediate countryside gives opportunities for varied walking, ranging from an after dinner stroll by the loch or to the Cairn O’ Get to a more exhilarating walk in the hills to the West.
For those who prefer a seascape for company there are miles of beaches at Reiss a short drive away.
Forest tracks at Rumster, Achairn & Camster provide woodland walks and an off road cycling facility.
The cottage is well placed for exploring the Caithness & Sutherland Coasts & countryside. A day trip and tour of Orkney is a popular option with most visitors.
Ancient stone rows, circles, cairns & brochs which pre date the pyramids are a feature of the local landscape. The Grey Cairns of Camster & the ever-popular Yarrows Heritage Trail are both nearby and are a ‘must see’.
Permits can be obtained for local trout lochs – Loch Watenan is just 5 minutes walk from the cottage. Sea angling trips can be arranged from main harbours.
There is a choice of 4 golf courses: Lybster, Reay, Reiss ( Wick) and Thurso.
