The Reay Forest Estate is a large sporting
Estate situated in remote and ruggedly beautiful North West Sutherland.
Fishing for salmon and brown trout is available on Loch Stack and Loch
More and for brown trout in the various hill lochs. There are magnificent
beaches about three miles on from Kinlochbervie, at Oldshoremore, Polin
and Sheigra and slightly further north, and off the beaten track, the
beach at Sandwood Bay is quite spectacular.
There is splendid
hill walking throughout the estate although visitors are asked to
co-operate in the stalking season, which starts at the beginning
of August. Ben Stack, Ben Arkle and Foinaven all lie
within the Estate.
There is much to interest ornithologists, particularly Handa Island
near Scourie. The Reay Forest is a fascinating geological area and
botanists will find a wealth of unusual flora.
Sea angling expeditions can normally be arranged from Kinlochbervie.
The location of Badnabay Cottage must be one of the most beautiful
with the sea shore to one side and the flowing burns, rolling hills
and wonderful views to the other. This cottage is one of two detached,
white-washed cottages, set back from the bay with lovely views of Ben
Stack, Arkle and Foinaven. There is a garage and a large garden with
trees, bushes and wild flora.
